NIGHTSTAR® FUNCTIONAL OPERATION
(See WARNING below!)

1. Turn switch off.
2. Hold horizontal and shake gently.
3. Shake back and forth at about 3 times per second for 30 seconds.
4. Rare-earth-magnet passes through coil making A.C.
5. A.C. flows from coil to rectifier and then to capacitor as D.C.
6. Turn switch on and D.C. flow will activate light emiting diode.
7. Turn switch off and shake for 10 to 15 seconds every 2 to 3 minutes.

Instructions: NightStar® should be moderately shaken with the flashlight held horizontally so that it is level/parallel to the ground. NightStar® is most effectively recharged when it is turned off and shaken between 2 and 3 times per second over a distance of approximately 2" (5 cm) (see diagram below). If it is shaken too vigorously or shaken in a vertical position, the charging magnet will hit the end of the flashlight. Although this will not damage the light, it is not recommended and it is certainly a non-optimum method of charging NightStar®. If NightStar® is completely drained of energy, it will take approximately 90 shakes (3 shakes per second for 30 seconds) to fully recharge the capacitor. During prolonged use, NightStar® should be turned off and shaken for 10 to 15 seconds every 2 to 3 minutes. This will ensure that an average illumination of 7 ft-candles is maintained.

Performance Optimization: Shaking NightStar® as described above results in a resonant condition that maximizes recharge efficiency. When resonance is reached, it will require fewer shakes to fully charge the capacitor. At resonance you will feel and hear the magnet smoothly changing direction due to the motion of the flashlight matching the recoil of the magnetic repulsion system.

WARNING !

A STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD surrounds the NightStar®! Do not set NightStar® within 16" (40 cm) of computers, monitors, televisions, or magnetic storage media (cassette tapes, computer floppies, videotapes, credit cards, etc.) Increased distances may be necessary for highly sensitive compasses used in aircraft and boats. Exercise caution when using any magnetic device close to pacemakers. Bob Ballew & Associates, L.L.C. and Applied Innovative Technologies, Inc. assume no responsibility for damages to any magnetically sensitive component or magnetic storage media or consequences resulting from such damage.
